Often called the “pearl of the Adriatic,” Dubrovnik certainly lives up to the hype. This beautiful city on the southern coast of Croatia is one of the most popular travel destinations on the Mediterranean Sea. It is known for its rich history and culture, stunning architecture, and picturesque landscapes. The city’s Old Town is  full of historic landmarks like the Walls of Dubrovnik and Rector’s Palace. More recently, Dubrovnik has become famous as one of the main filming locations of the hit television show Game of Thrones.

As you depart the Hotel Dubrovnik, an amazing city to explore awaits! Dubrovnik lies at the extreme south of Croatia, basking in Mediterranean sunshine for much of the year. A fairy tale fortress of wonderful Baroque, Gothic and Renaissance churches, aristocratic palaces, red-roofed townhouses, magnificent monasteries and fascinating history, it is almost impossible to feel anything but uplifted and inspired here. A few of the top tourist attractions include walking atop the Walls of Dubrovnik, taking a walk to Stradun (the city's main street), dining along the sea on the daily fresh catch, or taking the panoramic Cable Car ride up to Mount Srd, there is an abundance of things to do just steps away from the hotel.

Hotel Excelsior is ready to showcase its refurbished grandeur as one of the most lavish hotels on the Adriatic. A historic villa built in 1913 and home to gorgeous west-facing views of the glorious Old Town, Hotel Excelsior Dubrovnik enjoys the most enviable location of any hotel in the city – just a five-minute walk from the medieval fortress walls. It’s only when you visit that you fully appreciate the magnificence of the setting – the tranquil gardens in which to stroll, the beautiful beach, and the hotel’s three restaurants all offering spectacular views of the Adriatic. Of course, there’s also an indoor swimming pool, a glamorous spa, and a fitness center.

Tips for Getting Around:

  • The best (and only) way to get around Dubrovnik’s compact old town is on your own two feet. Enclosed by its age-old walls, the old town is completely pedestrianized. The only motorized vehicles you may see here are early morning delivery vans servicing shops and restaurants on the Stradun, the main thoroughfare.
  • Dubrovnik is not just about its old town. If you’re looking to take advantage of the city's many parks and beaches, and explore sights beyond the center, public transport is a viable option. You can get around Dubrovnik easily on the excellent bus service operated by Libertas. Timetables are posted at most bus stops or can be consulted on the Libertas website.
  • Taxi with licensed cabs can be found at the city's Pile and Ploče Gates; check the large signs posted at each to see the official rates. Pull out your smartphone and compare these with the prices for rideshares via the Uber and Bolt apps. These tend to be more pocket-friendly.

Things to Know:
